Hollow Head Press was founded in 2023 by poet and editor Faye K. Holloway, after years of writing work that seemed to exist somewhere between categories.
Faye had grown increasingly frustrated with the publishing world’s tendency to sort poetry into neat boxes. Her poems were too strange for some journals, too narrative for others, and occasionally, according to one particularly memorable rejection, “difficult to place.”
So she decided to make a place for them.
What began as a small project built around a handful of chapbooks quickly became Hollow Head Press: an independent literary press devoted to poetry, short fiction, and writing that doesn't always behave itself. Faye wanted to create the kind of press she had been looking for—a place where an unusual manuscript could be considered on its own terms rather than squeezed into whatever category happened to be available.
Since its founding, Hollow Head has published a growing list of emerging writers, including poets Mara Bellweather, Jonah Vale, Iris Venn, and Theo March, whose work represents the breadth of contemporary poetry we love: intimate, experimental, funny, unsettling, tender, and occasionally impossible to explain.
We are still a young press. That's intentional.
We'd rather build a small, thoughtful list of books we believe in than publish simply for the sake of filling a catalog. Every manuscript we take on is chosen because we think it has something worth putting into the world.
Hollow Head Press is still finding its shape. We hope the books do, too.

Hollow Head Press is a small, independent literary press made up of writers, editors, readers, and enthusiastic believers in good weird writing.
Founded by poet and editor Faye K. Holloway, Hollow Head began with a simple idea: interesting work shouldn't have to fit neatly into a category to deserve a home.
We work with emerging writers alongside more established voices, and we're less interested in résumés than we are in what someone has put on the page. You don't need a long list of publications or awards to belong here. You just need something worth saying.
Our writers come to us in different ways—through manuscript submissions, literary communities, recommendations, and increasingly through the small corners of social media where writers share their work. Sometimes we find a poem in a post, a writer through a recommendation, or a piece of work that stops us mid-scroll. If it stays in our heads, we reach out.
There is no single path to becoming a Hollow Head writer. We believe good work can come from anywhere, and we're always looking for the next voice we can't quite forget.
